Winter Fun & Activities in Santa Fe

Ample sunshine, a canyon-to-mountaintop spread of landscapes, and a host of cultural activities, entertainment, and luxury R&R: That’s the seductive appeal of a wintertime escape to Santa Fe, NM at La Posada de Santa Fe!

Here are just a few of the destinations and activities you can pursue as a guest luxuriating at our magnificent resort this winter!

Outdoor Recreation

Winter’s a great time to soak up the Southwestern splendor of our big backyard here in Santa Fe. Some fine powder awaits on the skiing and snowboarding slopes of Ski Santa Fe, more than 10,000 feet up in the Sangre de Cristos of the Santa Fe National Forest only about a half-hour’s drive from our resort. The resort boasts 225 inches of annual snowfall, 1,725 feet of vertical, 83 trails (nicely spread between easy, intermediate, and expert ratings), and 36 groomed runs, plus The Bone Yard, a freestyle terrain park.

Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing opportunities also abound in the Santa Fe National Forest, including near Ski Santa Fe: Check out this page for a list of good spots.

And then there’s Bandelier National Monument, the Jemez Mountain mesa-scape renowned for its Ancestral Pueblo ruins (which we’ve spotlighted before here at the La Posada de Santa Fe blog). As the National Park Service notes, a veneer of snow can actually bring out the archaeological structures in greater definition. Occasionally major snowfall or other winter weather temporarily closes Bandelier; call 505-672-3861 x 517 to find out about current conditions.

Not far south of Bandelier, wander one of New Mexico’s most arresting landscapes in all its wintry glory at the Bureau of Land Management’s Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument on the Pajarito Plateau: a mini-range of ash, tuff, and pumice-formed cones derived from the Jemez volcanic field.

Around Town

More cosmopolitan wintertime pleasures await back in Santa Fe itself. Shop local handmade arts, crafts, clothing, and more at the Winter Market at El Museo Cultural de Santa Fe (Saturdays 8 AM to 3 PM, Sundays 9 AM to 4 PM) or the Railyard Artisan Market at the Santa Fe Farmers’ Market (Sundays 10 AM to 4 PM). Browse the shops, art galleries, and eateries on and around the Santa Fe Plaza, or check out some of our city’s fabulous museums and historic sites: the New Mexico Museum of Art, the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, the Palace of the Governors, and more.

Winter Pleasures at La Posada de Santa Fe

And then of course there are all the wintertime pleasures at your fingertips here at La Posada de Santa Fe itself: the world-class cuisine available to you at our restaurants and bars, for example, and the exquisite R&R and fitness going down daily at Spa Sage.

Declare a winter retreat in centuries-old Santa Fe, enjoy its ski-slopes-to-galleries spectrum, and pamper yourself with the richest in Southwestern luxury hospitality at La Posada de Santa Fe!
