Fiesta De Santa Fe Lodging

Not too many American cities have a community festival that dates back better than three centuries, but Santa Fe certainly does, and it’s coming up in just a few weeks! We hope you’ll come take in the 306th annual Fiesta de Santa Fe with luxurious resort lodgings here at La Posada de Santa Fe just a stone’s throw from the celebration.

Fiesta de Santa Fe

If you’ve done your mental calculations already, you’ll have figured out that the Santa Fe Fiesta’s roots go back all the way to 1712. That’s the year that the city organized a commemoration of Don Diego de Vargas’s successful retaking of Santa Fe from the indigenous Pueblo.

Today, the Santa Fe Fiesta is a celebration of community, diversity, and New Mexican culture, and among the defining events of our city’s well-stacked calendar.

This Year’s Fiesta

Fiesta de Santa Fe kicks off this year with a Pre-Fiesta Show on Sunday, August 26th in the historic Plaza de Santa Fe, which serves as the center of action for the festival (and is wonderfully close to our resort!). There’ll be live music and other fun on tap to usher in proceedings on the proper note.

On the night of Friday, August 31st, meanwhile, the most spectacular highlight of Fiesta de Santa Fe goes down at Fort Marcy Park near the Plaza: the annual Burning of Zozobra. Zozobra, also known as Old Man Doom, is a 50-foot ghoul of a marionette who materializes from the year’s accumulation of the Santa Fe citizenry’s ignoble deeds, and who meets a fiery end (each and every time) at the hands of the Fire Spirit analogously summoned by the greater share of the assembled crowd’s hope, inspiration, and goodwill. Don’t miss this signature Santa Fe tradition!

There’s plenty more on tap at the 306th run-through of the Santa Fe Festival, including the Fiesta Fine Arts & Crafts Market taking over the Plaza on Labor Day Weekend as well as the following weekend. There’ll be a dizzying display of jewelry, clothing, pottery, glassware, and other wares for sale during this well-attended exchange.

Then there’s the Mariachi Extravaganza de Santa Fe on Saturday, September 1st at the Santa Fe Opera (which we recently spotlighted here at the La Posada de Santa Fe blog, by the way): a zesty showcase of music and dance featuring the Mariachi Margaritas and other performers.

From other concerts to delicious Southwestern dining, there’s much else in store at this year’s Santa Fe Fiesta—check out the complete schedule right here!
