Holiday Activities Near Boutique Santa Fe Hotel

Monday, November 25th, 2019

Join us here at La Posada de Santa Fe Resort & Spa and take in some of the prodigious festive magic that defines the holiday season in the New Mexico capital! While you’re enjoying our boutique Southwestern accommodations and amenities, you’ll be well poised to sample Santa Fe’s holiday events and installations, a few of which we’ll spotlight in today’s blog post.

Holiday Lighting Event on the Plaza

On November 29th, you can take part in a time-honored holiday tradition over in the historic Santa Fe Plaza just a stone’s throw from the La Posada boutique-scape. Some 10,000 lights create a dreamy holiday wonderland in this hallowed center of the city. They’re set to be lit at 6:30 PM, but there’ll be plenty of enticements before that main event, including live entertainment in the Bandstand, the arrival (by vintage fire truck, no less) of Santa and Mrs. Claus around 4 PM, and the lighting of farolitos soon thereafter.

GLOW: A Winter Lights Event at the Santa Fe Botanical Garden

More lit-up loveliness will define the verdurous grounds of the Santa Fe Botanical Garden this December with the annual GLOW installation. Charming light displays and arrangements will be spread throughout the garden, and open on select evenings from 5 to 8 PM: November 30th to December 1st, December 6th through the 8th, December 13th through the 15th, December 20th through the 23rd, and December 26th through the 31st. There’s a special Preview Party, meanwhile, on the night of November 29th.

Besides all the twinkling setups, GLOW will feature live music, holiday drinks, and flybys from Santa Claus.

Christmas at the Palace

On December 13th, the Palace of the Governors and the New Mexico History Museum will host (for the 37th time!) this free annual family-friendly holiday soiree, complete with cookies, hot cider, seasonal crafts, piñatas, live tunes, and yet more appearances by that busy guy from the North Pole (and his main squeeze). Christmas at the Palace also features an antique printing press in operation.

Las Posadas

Two days later (December 15th), the Plaza comes alive with the traditional Hispanic festival of Las Posadas, where Mary and Joseph’s quest for a place to bear forth the Baby Jesus will be evoked in a candle-lit processional that ends up in the courtyard of the Palace of the Governors. Some devils will be involved, too, just for good measure…

Wine Selection at Julia Spirited Restaurant and Bar

Wine Selection at Julia Restaurant

Tuesday, September 24th, 2019

There are many epicurean pleasures daily on offer at our on-site house of haute cuisineJulia, A Spirited Restaurant & Bar—an establishment named for and honoring the one and only Julia Staab, who hosted many social gatherings here on our grounds back in the day. Along with the elegant and inventive cuisine itself—and the wonderful ambience, the fine lineup of specialty cocktails, and more—those pleasures include an exhaustive wine list. Indeed, so extensive and varied is our La Posada de Santa Fe wine cellar that we make one of the great destinations in the New Mexico capital for the most discerning of oenophiles!

Surveying the Wine-scape at La Posada de Santa Fe Resort & Spa

With a wine list some 12 pages long, you won’t exactly be hurting for options in the grape department at Julia, A Spirited Restaurant & Bar. Wherever your tastes land on the wine spectrum, you’ll be delighted by what our in-house sommeliers have on hand!

Perhaps you’re feeling in the mood for a white wine, in which case you might consider a Pino Grigio from Ca’bolani, Italy or the Conundrum White Blend from the California vineyards of Charles F Wagner. If the occasion calls for a little “sparkle,” so to speak, maybe you’ll opt for the Moet & Chandon Imperial, Veuve Cliquot Ponsardin, or Mionetto Prosecco.

If an impeccable red is what the doctor ordered, consider our Merlot from Leonetti Cellar in Washington’s Walla Walla Valley, any of our numerous Robert Mondavi Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon vintages, or the Hartford Court Zinfandel from Highwire Vineyard in the Russian River Valley. Among our high-end collection of Pinot Noirs, meanwhile, you’ve got a local choice from Gruet Winery right here in New Mexico.

Naturally we’ve barely scratched the surface of the wine-scape here at Julia, A Spirited Restaurant & Bar, and of course your server will be happy to walk you through the decision-making process if you’d like to more thoroughly explore the wine list.

The 2019 Santa Fe Wine & Chile Fiesta

We can’t wrap up this vino-oriented blog post without mentioning the upcoming Santa Fe Wine & Chile Fiesta, which draws some of the finest winemakers in the country to the New Mexico capital alongside superlative chefs and restaurateurs. On Thursday, September 26th, Julia itself will be host for one of the Santa Fe Wine & Chile Fiesta shindigs: a winery dinner pairing Executive Chef Tom Kerpon’s dishes with a variety of wines from the esteemed Elk Cove.

Introducing the Santa Fe Farmers’ Market

Among the oldest and biggest growers’ markets in the U.S., the Santa Fe Farmers’ Market is also among the relatively few major markets at which all of the products up for sale were grown or made by the folks selling them. All the produce and nursery starts sold here hail from northern New Mexico, as do the majority of the ingredients and materials used in the processed foods and craft products on offer. Local’s not just a buzzword here, in other words: It’s the name of the game.
